Research & Development and STEM Education Centers

RGBMediumColorCenter for Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education (CSMATE)
CSMATE plays a unique role in the field of STEM education both nationally and internationally. Their expertise is in the translation of cutting-edge science research into low-cost, safe, and environmentally friendly methods that do not compromise the intellectual sophistication that makes learning about STEM subjects exciting.

ELClogo Environmental Learning Center (ELC)

The ELC hosts upward of 14,000 visitors per year and has an annual calendar filled with innovative programs and classes for the general public. The rich history and geographic setting makes it a natural place for many CSU courses to visit for field exercises.

isteclogo Information Science and Technology Center (ISTeC)
ISTeC is a relatively new center focused on increasing the number and diversity of students interested in Information Science and Technology.


lsoplogo Little Shop of Physics (LSOP)
The Little Shop of Physics is known statewide for its wildly popular hands-on exhibits and interactive programs. Propelled by an unending stream of enthusiastic CSU student volunteers, the shop tours the state engaging more than 16,000 kids per year in their mission to get kids excited about a possible career in a STEM field.

nrellogo Natural Resources Ecology Laboratory (NREL)
This nationally recognized scientific research laboratory has been running a very successful GK-12 program for the past seven years. This program places CSU graduate students in regional classrooms and provides professional development.

pacetop Paced Algebra to Calculus electronically (PACe)

Over the past thirty-three years, the PACe Program has developed into a flexible instructional system that gives all CSU students the opportunity to master pre-calculus mathematics by providing them choices of content, an array of learning resources, variability in credits and deadlines, and various levels of individual support and encouragement.

The Institute for Learning and Teaching offers professional development programs and activities for CSU faculty and staff, supports research on learning and teaching, offers colloquia on the scholarship of teaching and learning, and promotes collaboration within and across disciplines.
