Announcing 2018 Mechanical Engineering Summer Camps

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University is holding STEM-focused summer camps for middle and high school students on the campus of Colorado State University beginning in June. Mechanical Engineering camps will give students the opportunity to nurture and discover their interest in science, technology, engineering, and computing. Four camp options are available and all skill levels are welcome. Registration begins March 1, 2018

Camp Options:

matlab-icon1-80x80MATLAB Mastery

Dates: July 30 – August 3
Cost: $299.00

MATLAB Mastery is a week-long comprehensive introduction to MATLAB for technical computing. Students are not required to have any prior programming or MATLAB experience. We introduce MATLAB through extensive examples from physics, engineering, and mathematics to provide students in these fields with tools that may be directly applied to their future coursework and scientific careers.

Camp Time: 8:00am-3:00pm
No meals are provided
Enrollment Limit: 30
No previous knowledge or experience is needed

women-in-engr1-80x80Girls Academic Leadership Summer Camp (GALS Camp)

Dates: June 18 – June 22
Cost: $299.00

Our Girls Academic and Leadership Summer Camp (GALS Camp) is a week-long half day experimental summer camp held on campus at Colorado State University. The objective of the camp is to introduce young women in high school to exciting careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Participants will tour our world-class research facilities and meet with female faculty and graduate students who run them. Each day of camp also includes a presentation from a female scientist or engineer who will share their personal experiences as a female in their field. The camp will conclude with a ceremony (parents are encouraged to attend) celebrating the role of women in science and engineering.

Camp Time: 8:00am-12:30pm
No meals are provided
Enrollment Limit: 30
No previous knowledge or experience is needed

ME Camp ImageBioengineering Bootcamp

Dates: June 11 – June 15
Cost: $499.00

This course is intended for students (from 8th to 11th grade) interested in learning about engineering principles and how they apply to human physiology in a fun, hands-on environment. Students will learn by creating a medical device from scratch! Specifically, students are going to make an electrocardiogram (ECG). Throughout the week, we will learn about human physiology, how to program an Arduino microcontroller, and how to read and interpret the electrical activity of the heart. By design, this course is moderately rigorous but emphases fun and learning at the same time. At the completion of the course, students will get to keep their electrocardiogram and will be instructed on other Arduino projects that they can try on their own.

Camp Time: 8:00am-12:30pm
No meals are provided
Enrollment Limit: 30
No previous knowledge or experience is needed

mucle-car-icon1-80x80DIY Muscle Car

Dates: June 25 – June 29
Cost: $499.00

This course is intended for students (from 8th to 11th grade) interested in learning about mechanical and electrical engineering principles and how to apply those principles to construct a custom radio-controlled car. Students will learn by creating an RC car that they control with their muscles! Throughout the week, we will learn about electronics, how to program an Arduino micro-controller, how to send signals over radio, and how to interpret muscle activation. By design, this course is rigorous but emphases fun and learning at the same time. At the completion of the course, students will get to keep their RC muscle car and will be instructed on other Arduino projects that they can try on their own.

Camp Time: 8:00am-12:30pm
No meals are provided
Enrollment Limit: 30
No previous knowledge or experience is needed
